ASHES, ASHES

1996/1/29, nondream digital sketch by Chris Wayan.

The collapse of civilizations, the plagues, the wars, the meltdowns... is it all a long-term game? "Ashes, ashes, all fall down" is now a children's rhyme, but it's over six centuries old--and about the Black Death.

But when I drew this I was thinking of a newer plague, one that's got me flat on my back--air pollution, especially the fine particulates that only in the last year or two have been proven to be the real killers.

She's green because she's the Earth. She's still sexy because... I keep hoping, I keep hoping, I keep hoping.

A green woman falls on her back as unseen voices chant 'ashes, ashes, all fall down'.
