The card of driven leaders.

It can seem so refreshing, in an age of bland, weaseling, mushmouthed politicians, to hear someone honest, even blunt, with a clear vision.

But Yeats (who served in the Irish legislature, and of all poets knew the most about what politics can cost you) said of the 20th Century: "The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity."

Has it changed? Watch out your blunt, entertaining leader isn't a Charismatic Lizard. It's not passion or even vision that matters: it's policy. Plenty of monsters have vision. The question is, on their road to utopia, who ends up as roadkill?
