26 Letters,
or,
A Complete Survey of Poesy
Dice rolled early August 1992 by Wayan and Cory; found in journal exactly twenty years later
My housemate Cory and I found a kid's word game that has 26 letter-dice; you're supposed to make a tiny crossword or something. Instead we took turns making a poem using whatever letters we rolled.
My first roll had a Q--luckily a U as well, so I had some flexibility and could phrase something vaguely risqué:
I HEAR A QUEER TOOLThere is justice in the world, for Cory got an equally nasty letter-mob led by the dreaded X. She fought the good fight:
AS ME TOE WETS
I.E.next a bloody William Carlos Williams image came to me:
ONE EX WIFE
FANS A GHASTLY ORE
NRA HEN PROTEINA red wheelbarrow indeed, beside those chickens. Cory countered with Shakespeare's adage on laughter as the best medicine:
QUART TINTS CAR
ZANY DARTS DID CORE MEN'S GERMSStill chicken-obsessed, but lacking an S for verbs or plurals, I too dove into the past with a warning from Macbeth's rooster:
WORM-FAMEI was tempted by "petcock" but... Oh go look it up, I'm too drained.
RANG
THE FEY PET COCK
Cory rolled twin Z's, but she drew on her bartending days for this haiku portrait of robotic drunks:
A COIN-OP BUZZARDShamanic headlines were my final hope:
GUMS MY FIFTH
YAQUI LUNG HOWLS AT PORK VOID
That only adds to 24; maybe some dice fell off the table. That's what's recorded, and besides, it reads right. If you gave me a couple of A's I still wouldn't add them. Pork void! Pork void!
Let's end here, before the STERN HAZE MELTS A HARP WITH FUR...
