The Beach

Dreamed before 1985 by Patricia Benefield

The beauty and mystery of a bird has long enchanted me, so it is understandable that they frequent my dreams. Sometimes I am a bird/woman, other times eggs, birth and nests are in evidence.

The Beach: mirror reflects bird-headed woman; dream painted by Patricia Benefield
The Beach, Patricia Benefield, 30"x28", oil on canvas

It is curious that the birds are appearing in my paintings in various characterizations--disguised as myself, as in "The Beach," a menacing being, a protector, or a refuge.

In later dream/paintings they have assumed a masculine role. Perhaps I wish to see men as beautiful and mysterious?
