THE BIRD-TAMER

1982/12/28, erasable crayon and ink, 14x17" (cropped a bit here) by Chris Wayan.

I'd been studying 1950s and Beat art work--such jagged stylized forms--when I drew this.

The scene itself, though, has nothing to do with the Beats. Just a centaur who understands that to make friends with wild beings you have to see with their eyes. To tame a bird, become a bird.

a bird-headed centaur tames a wild bird by a mountain lake.
