Canary Coal, Mole-Owned since 1893

Ink drawing 14x17", 1981/11/7, digitally tinted 2000, by Chris Wayan

As a worker who was poisoned on the job at Stanford University (and then lied to about the exposure and told I was lying), I've learned to see my environmental illness as political.

Canary workers pull coal-carts from the mine's mouth, as the mole owners look idly on. Click to enlarge.
Curious how it always seems to be the delicate canaries underground doing the dirty work, while the moles sit comfortably up top, directing operations and happily padding the expense accounts.
