FIRE IN THE BELLY

470 x 600, mid 1990s, crayon, by Chris Wayan

"Fire in the belly" is American slang, used as far I can tell only by reporters, not human beings. It means a burning ambition to win elections. Deemed essential by the media (Ralph Nader lacks it, so he can't be a real candidate). The rest of us would rather hear about what candidates will DO, but no, we get belly.

And polls of course. Everything but policy.

I get fire in the belly myself, but if I quit eating junk food and watching junk election news, and just close my eyes and vote for beautiful losers... it usually goes away.

A picture of my torso with my belly glowing red-hot and the words 'I had FIRE IN THE BELLY so I was glad--I'd be president!--but it was just bad food.'
