Space

Dreamed before 1925 by εmaxu.lag.Ilis

In my dream I flew upwards. It was as though I was going to the place where the stars are, for the stars were showing in the daytime. I saw all around our world.

Then I wished in vain to go down again. I was not able to do so. I was very afraid.

Then I awoke.

EDITOR'S NOTE

Dream researcher Hervey de Saint-Denys had an out-of-body dream of flying to the moon . But the features he saw matched contemporary articles he'd read about the moon, rather than the reality; for example, the rocks and craters looked volcanic. Science had not yet conceived of impact craters.

In contrast, εmaxu.lag.Ilis's spaceflight dream appears accurate: "...the stars were showing in the daytime." How would he know this? It's a detail only a few high-altitude balloonists knew in the pre-rocketry age.

Had he perhaps climbed very high mountains? This would be conceivable in a Tibetan or Andean shaman, but while the local peaks are 4 km high, nobody sane goes up there--in the cool rainy climate of coastal British Columbia, everything over 2 km glaciates massively.

Moreover, he got so far up that Earth's curvature was visible: "I saw all around our world." You can't see all around something flat!

The only biographical info the source provides is appended to Dream 66, also by εmaxu.lag.Ilis: "This man is known as a dreamer. He belongs to the SenL'.EM."
