FIND SOMEONE SPIRITUAL, STUPID!
Dream-based terracotta sculpture, 9" tall, 1996/9/5, by Chris Wayan.
I was single and feeling lonely. I had a strange dream, Golden Key, saying my true love would be a meditator so spiritual she could levitate.
So I sculpted this reminder and hung it over my workdesk like President Clinton's famous sign "It's The Economy, Stupid!" I wondered if it would summon someone...
And it promptly worked. But not quite as expected. Within weeks, I found someone spiritual, all right, and crazy about me... but sexually traumatized, finding it scary and anti-spiritual, and just starting to face that. And I was ambivalent about her... to the point I started getting sick with anxiety when we went out. I thought this was supposed to be fun...
Time to do another sculpture, I guess--and rephrase my search. Spirituality counts--but it's not everything. A little balance, please...
