NO BLUE RIDER

Self portrait from recurring dreams 1956-7; saw Franz Marc's horse-paintings & dreamed a critique, 1987/6/22; painted 1996/1/21; by Chris Wayan

In 1987 I stumbled on a book of Franz Marc's paintings and like them. He seemed to identify with animals as I do. But as I read up on him I was troubled. His painting school was called the Blue Rider. That should have tipped me off--the human rider, mastering the horse.

Marc died young. This lover of animals volunteered to fight for Imperial Germany. He mastered his animal side, and did the manly thing. Fought, killed, and died.
