Humor's one of the strongest emotions--its physical manifestation is as loud and uncontrollable as crying or orgasm. Strange--it's treated in Euro-American culture like a frill, somehow less primal than, say, anger or fear or grief or misery.

You know. Mature emotions.

Maybe it's because only a handful of creatures besides us grasp the very concept of humor. Unlike the other emotions, it require awareness of self and other.
