A Smoke in the Sixties
Dreamed 1983/12/2 by Wayan
I'm a girl in the 1960s who's obsessed with time. Not surprising, since I'm not native to this era; apparently I traveled back here from the future.
I sit in a row with several girl friends, passing a joint around. Or is it just tobacco? Somehow this is a serious act, posing a threat to life...
NEXT DAY
I go see Terms Of Endearment with Shirley Maclaine, Debra Winger and Jack Nicholson. It echoes my dream! A sixties daughter & her friend smoke dope, grow up, go New York City. And when one gets cancer--for smoking's a serious act posing a threat to life--friends line up all in row just like this.
2020 NOTE
One dream-bit the movie lacks is the time-travel theme. But that makes sense now. My dreaming mind noticed the time-anomaly--dream BEFORE film, yet clearly reacting to it--and puts time-travel in the dream, trying to mark itself as predictive. Self-flagging!
For years I assumed (influenced by Freud, Jung, and feminist theory, all big on gender) that dreaming I'm female (though awake, I'm male) must flag issues of sex or gender. But my genderbent dreams are on all sorts of issues. The common thread? They're all major. So today I translate that flag simply as "Big dream! Pay attention!"
Less genderbent than timebent. Which is, after all, now more controversial.
