The Deerman's Challenge

Dreamed 2002?-2007? by Melissa McClanahan (art 2012 or 2013, acrylic and colored pencil, 28"x 24")

I used to have recurring nightmares of this anthropomorphic antlered skull creature. They were violent and terrifying dreams. Sometimes I donned the deer skull and went on a rampage, inciting violence and terror in others.

Deerman's Challenge, painting of recurring dream by Melissa McClanahan.

Over time I named this nightmare simply "Deerman." Naming him seemed to give me back some power.
