Linda Medley’s Castle Waiting; Rachel Hartman’s Amy Unbounded; Carla Speed McNeil’s Finder, Will Eisner’s Spirit, Harvey Pekar’s American Splendor, Diane Noomin & Aline Kominsky’s anthology Twisted Sisters; Wimmen’s Comics (variously spelled through this series’ long run); Jack Kent’s King Aroo; Crumb and Kominsky’s Dirty Laundry; lots of R. Crumb’s solo work; Walt Kelly’s Pogo; Kate Worley and Reed Waller’s Omaha; George Herriman’s Krazy Kat; Wendy and Walter Pini’s Elfquest; Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez’s Love and Rockets; Dan O’Neill’s Odd Bodkins; Hokusai’s prodigious output; Gauguin (his paintings moved me way more than the sketches of Noa Noa); Phoebe Gloeckner’s A Child’s Life; Winsor McCay’s Little Nemo, the first great dream-comic; and Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. If I redrew it today, I’d add Al Davison’s The Spiral Cage, Don De Matteis’s Moonshadow, Debbie Drechsler, Eric Drooker, Mary Fleener, Scott McCloud, Hayao Miyazaki, Alan Moore, Terry Moore, Daniel Quinn, Marjane Satrapi, Jeff Smith, Jim Woodring, and Phil Yeh’s Winged Tyger.
