TOWERS
One in particular recurs in my dreams: a lone tower on a craggy hill, round, tapered, with a spiral stair, and twelve arched windows in the room at the top. As it happens, I know its origin: it's a mixture of Coit Tower in San Francisco, a strange round fluted phallic thing built to mimic a gigantic firehose nozzle (because the woman who funded it had a serious thing for fires, and firemen, and this is, after all, San Francisco), mixed with Wind Tower, from Patricia McKillip's "The Riddle of Stars", the last tower standing in a ruined city, unclimbable, the refuge of a being who'd die without that hiding place. The image haunted me, for I'm like that too--need solitude and privacy to survive. And, in this busy seductive world, my dreams need to remind me of it constantly.
But your dream-towers are probably quite different.
