Crash!
Are these random brain-noise, as most clinical sleep and dream researchers say? Symbolic of worries, as most clinical psychologists say? Literal and predictive, as much of the public thinks but is too embarrassed to admit? In my experience, they vary. But I can no longer rule out ESP as a legitimate hypothesis. Too many, er, hits.
So it's prudent, if you dream of a crash and it's avoidable in some way, to take action. The largest study I've seen, by Sally Rhine Feather of the Rhine Institute, found that about two-thirds of those having strong premonitions (most but not all of them in dreams) that could be acted on in some way, failed to do so! Social pressure, inconvenience, embarrassment, incredulity... Of the minority who did act, two-thirds changed the outcome substantially, almost all for the better; lives were saved.
If you're in therapy or under great stress, it makes sense to look for a symbolic, emotional meaning too; but why not also fix the brakes, switch your plane ticket, refuse to get in the car with your friends who swear they're sober?
Better a live kook than a dead rationalist.
